Insights
Every collection in Catalog has an Insights drawer — a sidecar panel that summarizes the collection’s makeup at a glance. It’s the fastest way to answer “what does this list of shows actually look like?” without scrolling through every row.
What it shows
The drawer is organized into stacked sections:
- Totals — show count, total audience, weighted-avg listenership, hosts represented.
- Categories — a bar / pie breakdown of categories present, ranked by show count.
- Demographics — audience age, gender, income brackets aggregated across the shows that report them.
- Networks — distribution by publisher / network.
- Capabilities — what share of the collection is DAI-enabled, embedded-only, host-read, video, etc.

If the collection contains shows where some metric isn’t filled in, the section says how many shows were excluded from the aggregate (e.g. “Based on 28 of 42 shows with audience data”).
Opening the drawer
| From | How |
|---|---|
| Inside a collection | Click the Insights button in the collection header. |
| Sidebar tree | Right-click a collection → Insights. |
| Spotlight (⌘K) | “Insights <collection name>” → Enter. |
| AI assistant | ”Show me insights on this collection” → opens the drawer. |
On desktop, the drawer auto-opens the first time you navigate to a collection (within a session). If you explicitly close it, the auto-open is suppressed for the rest of the session so it doesn’t keep popping back up.
Stacked drawers
You can open up to 4 insights drawers at once for side-by-side comparison. Each drawer is independent — opening drawer #2 doesn’t replace drawer #1.

Use this to compare a draft pitch list against a reference collection (“how does my Q1 list compare to last year’s winners?”) or to compare two genre slices (“comedy vs true-crime audience profile”).
The 4-drawer limit is a soft cap to prevent the UI from getting unworkable — opening a fifth shows a toast and refuses.
Single-pane mode
On the unified /collections tree view, drawers behave differently:
- Only one drawer open at a time. Opening a new one replaces the current.
- This is because the tree itself takes the left side of the screen and stacking drawers there would crush everything.
Elsewhere (collection detail pages, shows grid) you stay in the multi-drawer mode.
Comparison overlays
If you pass a “comparison” collection to the drawer (via the AI assistant or the drawer’s compare picker), each section adds an overlay showing the comparison’s distribution alongside yours.

This makes it easy to spot under- or over-represented categories without doing the math yourself.
What’s NOT in insights
A few things that look like they’d belong here, but don’t:
- Performance data — there’s no live campaign-delivery info in the drawer. That’s the Orders / Reports app’s job.
- Pricing / CPM — also not here; rate info lives on the show itself when filled in, but the drawer doesn’t aggregate it.
- Per-show edit affordances — Insights is read-only. To make changes, close the drawer and use the grid.
Edge cases & gotchas
- Collections with one or two shows — most aggregates degenerate. The drawer still opens but several sections collapse to “Not enough data”.
- Stale data after edits — Insights are computed live but cached briefly. Edit a show then reopen the drawer to refresh; we don’t auto-recompute on every keystroke.
- Comparison against a huge collection — works, but the AI overlay may take a few seconds to render the second time. Subsequent opens are cached.
- Closed-by-mistake — re-open from the header or Spotlight. The session-storage flag that suppresses auto-open is per-session, so closing in tab A doesn’t affect tab B.
- All Shows view — admins viewing /admin/all-shows can open Insights too (gives you a platform-wide profile), but the demographic aggregates are weighted by show count, not audience, so interpret carefully.
